Junior Software Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Primarily remote, with up to 15% travel for customer engagements, integration events, testing, demonstrations, and team collaboration within the United States. US citizenship required.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software for Department of War research, development, and prototyping efforts.
• Develop APIs, backend services, web applications, data pipelines, and cloud-based solutions.
• Perform software integration, debugging, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Apply secure coding practices and support cybersecurity requirements for mission-focused applications.
• Collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, researchers, data scientists, and military subject matter experts.
• Support Agile development, technical documentation, configuration management, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and technology transitions.

Requirements

• US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, information systems, or a related field.
• 4–6 years of software development experience, including software architecture and design experience.
• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages, such as Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React/Tailwind, C++, C#, or Go.
• Experience with database design and development, including SQL or MongoDB; APIs, services, or distributed systems; cloud technologies; containerization; Git; and modern development toolchains.
• Knowledge of Azure DevOps and pipeline deployments, software testing and deployment, secure coding, and strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Active Secret or Top Secret Department of War clearance.
• Experience in DevOps or DevSecOps, software architecture, generative or agentic AI, systems engineering, data engineering, cloud solutions, automated testing, or cybersecurity engineering.
• Experience with Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, or federal government software programs.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with AI/ML, cyber operations, mission systems, data analytics, command and control, digital engineering, SBIR/STTR, OTA projects, or rapid prototyping.
