Forward Deployed Engineer - Software Development Engineer – Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, with a hybrid schedule requiring at least 60% or 24 hours per week on-site. Candidates in Durham, North Carolina may also be considered, with the Bay Area preferred. Tuesdays and Thursdays are key on-site days.

Annual base pay: $99,000–$121,000 in Sunnyvale, CA or $86,000–$105,000 in Durham, NC, plus potential bonus or incentives.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain AI-enabled applications, machine learning services, APIs, and enterprise software.
• Build solutions using artificial intelligence, machine learning, Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and related technologies.
• Translate functional requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions with product, data science, engineering, and business stakeholders.
• Contribute to model integration, prompt engineering, evaluation, monitoring, architecture reviews, and technical planning.
• Develop automated tests, CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, documentation, and engineering best practices.
• Support production operations, incident response, defect resolution, security, privacy, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, or a related field.
• Typically 3–5 years of professional software development experience, including enterprise applications or AI-enabled software.
• Professional experience with Python and at least one additional language such as Java, C#, C++, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP; APIs, microservices, containers, databases, data engineering, REST APIs, CI/CD, source control, Agile, and automated testing.
• Knowledge of AI and machine learning frameworks or services such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, Hugging Face, LangChain, OpenAI APIs, Azure OpenAI, or Amazon Bedrock.
• Understanding of secure software development, cybersecurity, HIPAA, sensitive data protection, and software development in regulated environments.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare, biotechnology, diagnostics, life sciences, or other regulated environments.
• Experience with FDA-regulated software, software validation, and data integrity principles.
• Interest in emerging AI technologies and modern engineering practices.
