Data Platform Architect (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California; hybrid work model with required in-office attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Remote placement will not be considered. Primarily PT working hours. Relocation support may be available based on job level.

Target base salary: $210,000–$245,000 annually, plus potential equity and annual bonus.

What you will do

• Define and maintain reference architecture for the modern data and AI platform, meeting enterprise security, compliance, scalability, and resilience requirements.
• Design and validate architectural patterns for data pipelines, storage, compute, and integration while balancing performance, cost, and operational resilience.
• Govern shared data-platform technology choices, adoption standards, data-modeling patterns, integration contracts, and security guardrails across CIO and CPTO teams.
• Lead proofs of concept and technical evaluations for AI/ML infrastructure, GenAI integration patterns, and automation platforms.
• Drive architecture governance with enterprise architecture and ensure alignment with technology strategy and regulatory requirements.
• Apply AI to architecture workflows, including impact analysis, capacity planning, design-pattern recommendations, and compliance checking.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or platform engineering, plus a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience designing and delivering modern, cloud-based data platforms at scale, including Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent technologies.
• Strong understanding of performance, cost, governance, resilience, failover, scalability, security, and operational requirements.
• Experience applying AI to complex platform architecture, evaluating build-versus-buy decisions, and responsibly deploying AI in regulated financial environments.
• Ability to collaborate across infrastructure, security, integration, DevOps, governance, engineering leadership, compliance, and executive stakeholders.
• Ability to work primarily on Pacific Time and attend the San Francisco office three days per week.

Nice to have

• Deep Databricks experience, including Unity Catalog, Delta Lake optimization, and enterprise workspace governance.
• Enterprise architecture governance experience in a regulated financial institution, including SOX, GLBA, or fair-lending data requirements.
• Experience with ML/AI platform architecture, MLOps, model serving, evaluation frameworks, and feature stores.
• Familiarity with data mesh or domain-oriented data architecture in large, multi-team organizations.
