Senior Backend Engineer (Clojure)

Location: Remote within the United States

Annual salary: $170,000–$190,000 USD, depending on experience, skills, internal equity, and market data.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable, maintainable, and performant backend services primarily in Clojure.
• Support and gradually modernize legacy applications and services built with Node.
• Collaborate on cloud deployments using modern tooling and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Write clean, documented code and participate in code reviews.
• Work with senior engineers, DevOps, product management, and cross-functional stakeholders to integrate services and resolve operational issues.
• Adopt engineering best practices and continuously improve the backend technology stack.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of software development experience, including hands-on backend engineering.
• Proficiency in Clojure for developing and maintaining backend services.
• Familiarity with Node for supporting legacy services.
• Understanding of service-oriented architecture and RESTful API design.
• Experience with cloud environments, modern development tooling, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Strong analytical, debugging, optimization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
