Backend Engineer (Clojure)

Location: Remote from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, the UK or Poland. Flexible hours are available, with the option to work abroad for up to 181 days. The Berlin Mitte office can be visited as often as desired.

Salary: €54,000–€65,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services in Clojure.
• Build scalable APIs and services for high-throughput, low-latency applications.
• Improve system performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver well-designed solutions.
• Participate in technical discussions and help shape engineering best practices.
• Communicate progress, blockers, and trade-offs with the manager and team.

Requirements

• 2–3 years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer.
• Experience with Clojure or willingness to learn it.
• Mandatory use of AI for problem-solving and agentic coding.
• Understanding of functional programming principles and best practices.
• Experience with relational databases and key-value stores.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
