Actuator Test & Equipment Engineer (Robotics)

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate motor dynos, actuator dynos, back-to-back test setups, and mechanical test structures.
• Develop 4-square gear rigs for high-cycle gear-life and efficiency testing.
• Build cooling benches and durability fixtures for thermal characterization, environmental testing, and representative actuator duty cycles.
• Define data acquisition architecture, including sampling, sensor accuracy, synchronization, filtering, storage, calibration, and traceability.
• Create test procedures, fixtures, automated sequences, and data pipelines for efficient and unattended test execution.
• Partner with design, modeling, and technician teams on test plans, model correlation, durability validation, and reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 5+ years developing and operating electromechanical test equipment for motors, drivetrains, actuators, transmissions, or similar systems.
• Deep proficiency in dyno design, electromechanical rig development, servo-drive commissioning, and PMSM/BLDC motor characterization.
• Hands-on experience with torque transducers, encoders, electrical measurements, thermocouples or RTDs, accelerometers, and DAQ systems such as NI, dSPACE, or Speedgoat.
• Proficiency in CAD and MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW for fixture design, test automation, and data analysis.
• Experience with gear testing, thermal or fluid testing, automated test sequences, reliability testing, and data integrity practices.

Nice to have

• Experience testing actuators for legged robots, manipulators, electric vehicles, or motorsport applications.
• Familiarity with harmonic, cycloidal, or planetary gear failure modes and FZG-style testing.
• Knowledge of B-life qualification, accelerated life testing, and durability-test statistics.
