Laboratory Operations Specialist (Biotechnology)

What you will do

• Build and operate a functional genomics laboratory with scientists and engineers.
• Maintain equipment, laboratory infrastructure, inventory, and research operations.
• Support vivarium operations, including animal husbandry, supplies, and welfare compliance.
• Identify operational bottlenecks and implement long-term solutions, including sourcing and onboarding new systems.
• Coordinate equipment sourcing, procurement, and inventory management with scientific, Facilities, Finance, and Operations stakeholders.
• Maintain laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, waste treatment, and foreign agent testing programs in line with federal, state, and local guidelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or experience in a cell biology, molecular biology, genomics, or similar laboratory setting.
• At least 3 years of laboratory operations experience.
• Ability to identify inefficiencies proactively and implement long-term solutions.
• Strong data fluency and ability to think programmatically.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work on-site in South San Francisco in a laboratory environment.

Nice to have

• Functional genomics laboratory experience.
• Hands-on cell or molecular biology research experience, including familiarity with cell culture, cloning, and NGS library preparation reagents and tools.
• Experience with procurement and purchasing systems.
• Environmental health and safety experience.
• Experience with laboratory inventory and sample management systems.
