Senior Photonic Circuits Design Engineer (Photonics)

Location: Hybrid/onsite in Sunnyvale, California, United States preferred; relocation assistance available

Salary: $220,000–$270,000 annual base salary range, inclusive of bonus at target, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Own the architecture and delivery of photonic integrated circuit designs for next-generation wireless optical communication systems.
• Design photonic spectral filters and photonic switches for very-large-scale photonic integrated circuits.
• Contribute to photonic layout, system-level optimization, and optical link modeling.
• Advance integrated photonic and electronic modules from design through commercial foundry tapeouts.
• Collaborate with a small R&D team and senior external partners on complex photonic systems.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Five or more years of relevant industry experience with demonstrated achievements in photonic circuit design.
• Extensive expertise in photonic spectral filter design and photonic link modeling.
• Expertise in photonic switch design, antenna theory, and photonic layout.
• Experience with Lumerical or equivalent photonic device simulation software, and VPIphotonics, Lumerical Interconnect, or equivalent optical link simulation software.
• Hands-on experience with multiple tapeouts at commercial foundries.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, Git, and gdsfactory.
• Experience with Design Rule Checks, Layout Versus Schematic, and Calibre or equivalent layout verification software.
• Experience advancing products from prototype to final production.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for working with senior external partners.
