TL;DR
Senior Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Design (Quantum Computing Hardware): Designing and developing integrated photonic components and systems for commercial and research quantum computing systems with an accent on photonic simulation, PIC layout, fabrication, and optical testing. Focus on translating system requirements into novel PIC designs, validating component performance with fabrication and test teams, and leading development with internal teams and external vendors.

Location: On-site in Broomfield, Colorado, or Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. U.S. Person status is required; candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or green card holders, or workers granted asylum or refugee status. Due to national security requirements, Chinese or Russian nationals are ineligible unless they are also U.S. citizens.

Salary: $148,000–$185,000 annually.

Company

hirify.global develops integrated quantum computing hardware and software, with research and engineering teams across the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan.

What you will do

  • Design and develop integrated photonic components and systems for quantum computing applications.
  • Collaborate with architecture, physics, photonics, fabrication, and mechanical engineering teams to define requirements and demonstrate systems that meet performance targets.
  • Translate technical requirements into action plans and novel PIC designs.
  • Create layouts for test PICs and work with fabrication and test teams to validate photonic component performance.
  • Lead the PIC development team and coordinate with external vendors to deliver key demonstrators on schedule.
  • Support commercial and research systems with physicists and optical engineers.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree minimum; optics, physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience designing photonic integrated circuits using simulation tools such as Lumerical, RSoft, or similar guided-mode and FDTD solvers.
  • Experience with PIC layout tools such as KLayout, GDSFactory, or similar.
  • 4+ years of experience using and maintaining optical or photonic systems.
  • Must be a U.S. Person and satisfy the stated national security restrictions.
  • Experience with optical testing, data analysis, and programming in MATLAB, Python, or C.

Nice to have

  • Experience with design for manufacturing, photonics fabrication processes, and metrology.
  • Knowledge of materials used in visible photonic circuits and optics.
  • Product development experience involving photonic design, fabrication, or packaging of PIC systems.
  • Experience leading and mentoring small teams.

Culture & Benefits

  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Employer-subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with matching and student loan repayment benefit.
  • Equity, 12 paid holidays, vacation and sick time, and paid parental leave.
  • Employee discounts and work focused on quantum computing research and product development.

Hiring process

  • Applicants for safety-sensitive positions must complete a pre-employment drug test.
  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis without a stated deadline.
