What you will do

• Design, simulate, characterize, and optimize photonic components, including lasers, modulators, high-speed photodetectors, passive devices, and waveguides.
• Contribute to photonic integrated circuit design and architecture evaluations.
• Support test-chip execution, layout coordination, tape-out preparation, fabrication, and silicon validation.
• Analyze characterization and test data to identify trends, root causes, and design improvements.
• Develop photonic device models, simulation workflows, automation tools, and improved test methodologies.
• Evaluate emerging photonic technologies, support proof-of-concept demonstrations, and contribute to patents and technical publications.

Requirements

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline plus 2+ years of experience in silicon photonic device design, simulation, characterization, or related research; or a Master's degree in a related field plus 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with high-speed photonic devices, including optical modulators and photodetectors.
• Experience with photonic design and simulation using Sentaurus, Silvaco, Lumerical, HFSS, ADS, RSoft, or equivalent tools.
• Experience with photonic device testing and characterization, including data analysis using MATLAB, Python, JMP, or similar tools.
• Experience with photonic layout design using Cadence, KLayout, or comparable design environments.

Nice to have

• Silicon photonic modulator or detector design experience.
• Micro-ring modulator or advanced photonic materials experience, including BTO, TFLN, or III-V integration.
• Understanding of high-speed electronic ICs, including TIAs, drivers, equalization techniques, and DSP concepts.
• Optical link modeling, system-level performance analysis, and experience with devices operating at 100G+ data rates.
• Familiarity with semiconductor foundry development processes and active or passive silicon photonic devices such as heaters, carrier-injection devices, and passive waveguides.
• Publications, conference presentations, patents, customer-facing work, product development, or cross-functional engineering experience.
