Lead Integrated Photonics Simulation and Layout Engineer (Quantum Photonics)

Location: Remote in the US, with hybrid/remote options in Boston, MA. Travel is less than 10%.

Salary: $145,920–$209,241 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead component design and layout for photonic foundry PDK development.
• Build and maintain parameterized component cell libraries, EPDA integrations, and automated layout workflows.
• Design and lay out quantum photonic platforms using diamond photonics, thin-film lithium niobate, and ion trap photonics.
• Own full-reticle tapeouts from floorplanning through GDS generation, including DRC, LVS, and layout reviews.
• Partner with fabrication and test teams to validate PDK components against measured device performance.

Requirements

• PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with diamond photonics, thin-film lithium niobate, or ion trap photonics and tools such as Lumerical, Tidy3D, or COMSOL.
• Extensive experience generating integrated photonic circuit layouts and owning commercial-foundry full-reticle tapeouts.
• Deep expertise with Python-based photonic layout tools such as KLayout, gdsfactory, or Luceda IPKISS, plus PDK development workflows.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience collaborating across design, fabrication, and test teams.
• Must be eligible to work in the US or obtain the authorization required for US export-controlled technology and government-contract work.

Nice to have

• Experience developing or supporting PDKs for commercial photonic foundries.
• Experience with agentic AI workflows such as Claude Code.
• Software engineering skills including Python automation, version control, DRC, LVS, and ERC.
• Familiarity with distributed quantum computing, sensing, and networking architectures.
