Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid options available

Base compensation: $145,920–$209,241 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead component design and layout for PDK development with commercial photonic foundries.
  • Build and maintain parameterized component cell libraries with EPDA support and automated layout workflows.
  • Design and lay out quantum photonic technologies, including diamond photonics, thin-film lithium niobate, and ion trap photonics.
  • Own full-reticle tapeouts from floorplanning through GDS generation, including DRC and LVS physical verification.
  • Lead layout reviews and collaborate with fabrication and test teams to validate PDK components against measured device performance.

Requirements

  • PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience designing devices for diamond photonics, thin-film lithium niobate, or ion trap photonics platforms.
  • Proficiency with photonic simulation tools such as Lumerical, Tidy3D, or COMSOL.
  • Extensive experience generating integrated photonic circuit layouts and owning full-reticle tapeouts with commercial foundries.
  • Deep expertise with Python-based photonic layout tools such as KLayout, gdsfactory, or Luceda IPKISS, and PDK development workflows.
  • U.S. person status or applicable export-control authorization may be required for access to technology and government-contract work.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing or supporting PDKs for commercial photonic foundries.
  • Experience with agentic AI workflows such as Claude Code.
  • Strong software engineering skills, including version control, Python layout automation, and ERC.
  • Familiarity with distributed quantum computing, sensing, and networking architectures.
