Software Engineer (Scala)

Location: Palo Alto, California, with a hybrid mix of working from home and in the office; regular in-person touchpoints are required. Technology hubs are located in Atlanta, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Base salary: $130,000–$155,000 per year, plus potential equity, bonuses, commission, and benefits.

What you will do

• Define and deliver platform data services and machine learning infrastructure for SaaS products.
• Build clean, performant, and maintainable Scala and Python services for a distributed data platform.
• Develop microservices with REST APIs for real-time query engines and web crawlers.
• Design ETL pipelines and Spark or MapReduce jobs for terabytes of daily data.
• Generate risk signals from sanctions, PEP, negative news, court, arrest, and other data sources.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists, DevOps Engineers, Front-end Engineers, and Product Managers to improve software design, testing, and performance.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on platform engineering.
• Professional experience with Scala and/or Java, PostgreSQL, and JVM-based code.
• Experience writing unit tests and automated integration tests.
• Ability to design scalable algorithms and efficient data structures, with a solid understanding of concurrency, distributed systems, and algorithm complexity.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Spark or MapReduce technologies.
• Familiarity with storage and caching solutions such as Memcached and Redis.
• Knowledge of machine learning techniques.
• Professional experience at a software startup.
