Software Engineer (Build Systems)

Location: Remote - US; New York, Austin, or San Francisco

Salary: $160K–$220K per year plus equity

What you will do

• Develop core platform features for scalable, high-performance build systems and compilers.
• Contribute to open-source projects including Bazel, gRPC, Goma, Soong, and CMake.
• Build distributed systems that improve developer productivity and software delivery speed.
• Collaborate with engineers who developed Bazel and evaluate new technologies for the platform.
• Maintain software delivery and operational excellence at scale.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for escalated production issues.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of at least one build system, such as Bazel, CMake, Maven, Gradle, Nix, or Buck.
• Experience with Linux, the Unix shell, and at least one cloud infrastructure provider such as AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenShift, or Oracle Cloud.
• Strong programming skills in Java, C++, Rust, or a similar major language.
• Experience with asynchronous programming and delivering software at scale.
• Ability to write and improve internal and external documentation.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
