Backend Engineer (Python)

What you will do

• Own the reliability, performance, and scalability of Extensions capabilities end to end.
• Design and build efficient, reproducible, and observable distributed workflows for production.
• Collaborate with data scientists to translate complex requirements into reliable engineering solutions.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize systems for enterprise latency and throughput requirements.
• Contribute to architectural decisions for integrating Extensions with the NEXUS backend.
• Write clean, well-tested Python code and improve backend engineering practices and documentation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with a strong focus on Python.
• Deep knowledge of clean, idiomatic, well-tested Python development.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems at production scale.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, task execution, and workflow orchestration.
• Experience building reproducible, observable, and debuggable production systems.
• Ability to work closely with non-engineering counterparts and take ownership of outcomes.

Nice to have

• Experience with Temporal, Dramatiq, Celery, or equivalent workflow orchestration systems.
• Familiarity with ML infrastructure or collaboration with data science teams.
• Experience with high-throughput data processing pipelines.
• Exposure to Kubernetes and container-based deployment environments.
• Background in profiling and optimizing Python services.
