Insurance Verification and Prior Authorization Specialist

Location: Remote

Salary: $26–$28 per hour; 40 hours per week

What you will do

• Research and document prior authorization and benefit verification requirements across commercial insurance plans and state Medicaid programs.
• Investigate payor-specific submission processes, including required documents, portals, fax numbers, CPT code requirements, and policy updates.
• Monitor payor websites, newsletters, and representative communications for current information.
• Validate guidance across multiple sources and assess its credibility.
• Build or improve processes where established protocols do not exist.
• Communicate findings to cross-functional stakeholders while managing deadlines and changing priorities.

Requirements

• Prior authorization and/or insurance verification experience in a healthcare clinic.
• Deep familiarity with payor submission processes and variations across insurance plans.
• Strong research skills and comfort navigating payor portals, websites, and documentation.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify common authorization mistakes.
• Experience working with multiple payors and improving processes in ambiguous environments.
• Strong communication skills, resilience, humility, and willingness to learn from mistakes.
