Director, Controller

Location: Cambridge, MA, United States; hybrid work required

Base pay range: $180,500–$233,500 per year

What you will do

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and prepare accurate financial statements under U.S. GAAP.
• Lead technical accounting for collaboration agreements, equity instruments, clinical trial accruals, in-process R&D, leases, and stock-based compensation.
• Direct annual audits and quarterly reviews, including auditor relationships, PBC schedules, disclosures, and timelines.
• Oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance in partnership with external tax advisors.
• Design and maintain internal controls suitable for public company accounting standards.
• Manage NetSuite, support board and audit committee materials, and build the accounting team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA certification.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years as a Controller or Assistant Controller.
• Public company accounting experience with ownership of financial statement preparation and audit management.
• Biotech or life sciences experience, including familiarity with clinical-stage accounting.
• Hands-on NetSuite proficiency and deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 718, ASC 842, and equity accounting.
• Ability to document controls and communicate complex accounting matters to auditors, senior leadership, and non-accountants.

• Big Four public accounting experience.
• Experience with CRO accrual methodology and collaboration agreements.
