Director of Accounting

Location: United States; fully remote

Salary: $185,000–$225,000 annual base salary, plus a target annual bonus of 25% of base salary and long-term incentive programs.

What you will do

• Own the financial reporting process, technical accounting assessments, accounting policies, position memos, investor reporting, and debt covenant reporting.
• Manage accounting for revenue recognition, leases, mergers and acquisitions, stock-based compensation, intercompany transactions, and US GAAP implications.
• Review and approve bi-monthly US payroll and high-level Canadian payroll, validating inputs, funding, payroll controls, journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
• Oversee payroll tax registrations, system configuration, process automation, and payroll operations with People Operations and external vendors.
• Support annual audits, quarterly internal control testing, tax compliance, process walkthroughs, and risk-control matrix maintenance.
• Review outsourced journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, manage insurance renewals and claims, and collaborate on month-end close and ad-hoc reporting.

Requirements

• Active CPA license and bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• Renewable industry experience required.
• 10–15+ years of progressive accounting experience and Big 4 or Tier II audit firm experience required.
• Strong technical accounting skills, deep US GAAP knowledge, and experience with revenue recognition, payroll accruals, intercompany accounting, and financial reporting.
• Thorough understanding of SOX compliance and IPO readiness; advanced Excel skills and familiarity with cloud HRIS/payroll platforms such as Rippling and AI tools.
• Experience with internal controls, multi-state US payroll operations, offshore team management, cross-functional collaboration, and external US and international payroll vendors.
