Data Scientist (NLP)

Location: Palo Alto, California; hybrid work from home and the office with regular in-person touchpoints. Technology hubs are also located in Atlanta, Georgia, and Washington, D.C.

Base salary: $140,000–$170,000 per year, with potential additional equity, bonuses, commission, and benefits.

What you will do

• Translate real-world business and financial crime challenges into quantitative problems.
• Develop algorithms and implement data science solutions from research through production.
• Apply NLP methods to entity resolution, document classification, knowledge graphs, and topic modeling.
• Build scalable and reliable machine learning pipelines using software engineering practices.
• Work with Product Management and Platform Engineering to deliver mathematical tools to end users.
• Explain assumptions, conclusions, and methodology to technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• At least 2 years of professional industry experience in addition to academic experience.
• Proficiency in at least two of Scala, Java, Python, and R.
• Strong knowledge of statistics, probability, and machine learning, including bias-variance trade-offs, regularization, dimension reduction, and model explanation.
• Experience with large-scale datasets containing millions of records, using SQL and Spark.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical ability, and software engineering skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with NLP methods including word and contextual embeddings, named entity recognition, topic modeling, large-scale document classification, and sequence-to-sequence models.
