Senior Software Engineer (Payroll)

Location: Remote within the US, hybrid, or onsite in New York City or San Francisco.

Annual salary: $205,000–$225,000 for Tier 1 cities including San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, and Seattle; $185,000–$200,000 for other US locations. Equity is offered.

What you will do

• Build features and reliable systems for embedded payroll and payroll infrastructure.
• Lead end-to-end problem-solving from conception through implementation.
• Prototype creative solutions for complex technical and product challenges.
• Improve engineering quality through code contributions, reviews, and team operations.
• Identify patterns, develop domain expertise, and simplify complex systems.
• Document decisions, evaluate options, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and customers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building complex systems or working in regulated industries, with a focus on scaling.
• Ability to work autonomously on team-wide projects with significant business impact.
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with multiple internal stakeholders and end customers.
• Strong decision-making, debugging, curiosity, and tenacity when working with intricate systems.
• Willingness to learn the current stack: Python/Django, React, TypeScript, AWS, Terraform, Postgres, Temporal, and GitHub.
