What you will do

• Operate ion-trap quantum computing hardware and apply experimental quantum technology expertise.
• Develop quantum control protocols for ion shuttling and quantum gates.
• Calibrate, optimise, and characterise quantum computing hardware.
• Build theoretical models and simulations to compare experimental measurements with predicted quantum dynamics.
• Collaborate with software engineers, electrical engineers, physicists, and quantum engineers on new technologies and product concepts.

Requirements

• PhD in AMO physics or a closely related field; postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.
• 5+ years of degree-inclusive experience calibrating, characterising, and operating experiments for quantum technologies.
• Strong experimental AMO physics experience, especially in laser cooling and trapping or quantum control with ion-trap or neutral-atom platforms.
• Experience designing, building, and improving complex experimental systems, demonstrated through publications or hands-on development.
• Hands-on expertise with laser systems, optics, microwave and RF control, high-precision imaging, modelling, and simulations.
• Experience leading a project in quantum measurement, quantum control, or experimental quantum systems, with strong cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with surface ion traps and their operation.
• Experience with ytterbium or barium ion-qubit systems.
• Strong Python programming skills for experimental control, data analysis, simulation, or automation.
