Senior Data Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco

Salary: $180,200 – $225,200

What you will do

• Own the architecture and evolution of the data platform, balancing timelines, costs, and resources.
• Build and optimize robust ETL pipelines and datasets to support analytics and machine learning initiatives.
• Define and enforce engineering standards for code development, review, and deployment.
• Establish security, governance, and operational best practices in collaboration with security teams.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Provide build-vs-buy assessments to guide platform expansion.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of industry experience, including technical leadership of data platforms.
• Deep expertise in building and maintaining data platforms for analytics and data science.
• Strong command of Python, PySpark, and SQL.
• Proven track record of designing robust ETL ingestion pipelines from external sources.
• Experience setting standards for code development and deployment in a data engineering environment.
• Ability to translate complex business needs into clear technical requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience building a data platform from zero to one.
• Background working with healthcare data.
• Degree in a quantitative field such as data science, statistics, or engineering.
• Experience with SDLC and MLOps for managing machine learning models in production.
