SDK Engineer (Robotics)

What you will do

• Build and maintain Python, C++, and Java client SDKs for robot platform APIs.
• Develop the protoc and buf code-generation toolchain and CI pipelines that regenerate clients after proto changes.
• Implement cross-language channel lifecycle management, including timeouts, deadline propagation, reconnection, and TLS/mTLS configuration.
• Design language-idiomatic exception hierarchies and maintain client-server version-skew compatibility tests and policies.
• Add simulation-mode support, structured logging, OpenTelemetry tracing, and Prometheus metrics to the SDKs.
• Create reference applications, generated documentation, onboarding materials, and review RFCs for proto changes.

Requirements

• Experience shipping platform SDKs or client libraries used by internal or external customers.
• Proficiency in at least two of modern Python, modern C++, and Java, including their asynchronous patterns and build systems.
• Production experience with protoc, buf, grpc-python, grpc-java, and/or grpc-cpp.
• Experience with multi-language packaging and CI pipelines, including pip wheels, Conan or vcpkg recipes, or Maven Central publishing.
• Strong API design skills covering gRPC, REST or GraphQL, semantic versioning, deprecation policies, and backward compatibility.
• Experience owning documentation deliverables with tools such as Sphinx, Doxygen, or MkDocs.

Nice to have

• Robotics or industrial control experience, including latency and timing semantics.
• Experience creating native-library bindings with PyBind11, JNI, SWIG, or cppyy.
• Experience authoring OpenTelemetry instrumentation libraries across multiple languages.
• Working knowledge of ROS 2 client library design, including rclpy or rclcpp.
• Experience creating developer-portal API references or SDK tutorial series.
