Storage Administrator

Location: Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom; flexible working arrangements including hybrid working patterns.

Salary: From £3,861 net per month, depending on relevant experience, plus benefits and financial allowances. Contract length: 3 years, renewable to a maximum of 9 years.

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of user storage, including quota policies, usage policies, and data tiering.
• Operate and maintain NAS, SAN, object, tape, and high-performance storage resources.
• Design and deploy storage infrastructure, including logical configuration, physical racking, and cabling.
• Monitor capacity, advise users on data management, and maintain infrastructure reporting and accounting.
• Work with the HPC team to diagnose performance issues in parallel file systems and unusual workloads.
• Automate infrastructure setup with Ansible and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.

Requirements

• Degree in computer science or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 3 years of experience operating and maintaining large-scale, high-performance storage infrastructure.
• Experience with hardware-based storage solutions across vendors such as Isilon, NetApp, and Pure.
• Strong Linux administration skills, preferably with RHEL or a RHEL clone, plus bare-metal hardware deployment experience.
• Strong automation skills with Ansible and programming experience, preferably in Python.
• Strong written and interpersonal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and share knowledge.

Nice to have

• Experience with parallel file systems such as Lustre, GPFS, or Weka.
• Experience with storage benchmarking tools such as IOR, IOzone, or Warp.
• Experience with cloud technologies, Ethernet, InfiniBand, or infrastructure monitoring methodologies.
