Head of Software

Location: El Segundo, California, United States. U.S. citizenship or qualifying U.S. immigration status is required under export control requirements, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Base salary: $220,000–$320,000 per year, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead the growth, structure, people management, and strategic planning of the Software Engineering Department.
• Set hiring goals and build teams across backend platforms, frontend interfaces, platform engineering, and hardware-software integration.
• Architect, build, and ship backend, real-time geospatial, and operator-facing command-and-control products.
• Partner with the CTO, Lead Software Engineer, Product Owners, and Engineering Managers on product and customer development strategy.
• Coordinate with Go-To-Market, Hardware, and Operations to deliver software with operational impact in the field.
• Represent hirify.global with strategic partners and customers and contribute to product roadmaps and planning cycles.

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including substantial experience in a hands-on technical lead, principal, or director-level role.
• Expertise across backend systems, event-based and distributed architecture, REST, gRPC, GraphQL, real-time data pipelines, and production operations.
• Strong production experience with Go, Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, object storage, geospatial tooling, and high-reliability deployment patterns.
• Experience leading both backend platform and frontend/UI development for complex, data-intensive applications.
• Experience taking multiple products from initial architecture through production at scale, while hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers.
• U.S. citizenship or qualifying U.S. immigration status and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Nice to have

• Founding or early-stage startup experience, including standing up a team or discipline from zero.
• Exposure to DOD IL5+, Top Secret, or JWICS environments and DOD RMF, FedRAMP, or NIST 800-53.
• Experience with real-time, geospatial, embedded, edge-compute, fleet-management, or control-system software.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
