Head of Hardware

Location: El Segundo, California, United States. Relocation assistance is available if applicable. Applicants must meet U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship or nationality, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylee status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.

Base salary: $220,000–$310,000 per year, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead the complete hardware development lifecycle from concept and architecture through mass production.
• Own electrical and embedded systems engineering, including circuit design, PCB layout, component selection, and system integration.
• Lead mechanical and industrial design, including CAD, FEA, structural and thermal analysis, DFMA, and GD&T.
• Establish engineering standards, design tools, revision systems, vendor relationships, supply-chain processes, and design methodologies.
• Partner with Manufacturing to balance technical requirements, user experience, product quality, and aesthetic design while accelerating prototype iteration and production.
• Hire, mentor, and lead the Hardware Engineering Department from its foundation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive hardware product development experience, including hands-on technical leadership at lead or director level.
• Expertise across PCB design, power electronics, mixed-signal circuits, firmware integration, CAD, mechanical and thermal engineering, industrial design, and manufacturing.
• Experience taking at least two products from initial concept through high-volume manufacturing.
• Deep knowledge of DFMA and supply-chain management for consumer electronics.
• Demonstrated expertise with Altium and Onshape; familiarity with Arena PLM.
• Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and technical-strategy skills. A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is optional.

• Founder or founding-engineer experience at a successful, fast-moving hardware startup.
