What you will do
- Drive the hardware roadmap across airframe design, propulsion, payload mechanisms, mechanical structures, thermal management, and manufacturing.
- Design, prototype, assemble, and test hardware while establishing scalable development and manufacturing processes.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a hardware engineering team spanning mechanical design, aerostructures, propulsion, thermal systems, and manufacturing.
- Collaborate with software, electrical, product, and operations teams to deliver integrated systems.
- Test and prepare hardware for deployment in heat, smoke, ash, rough handling, and other demanding field conditions.
- Establish design-for-manufacturing and design-for-reliability practices and support the transition from prototypes to low-rate and volume production.
Requirements
- Approximately 10 years of hardware or mechanical engineering experience, including experience managing engineers or leading technical teams.
- Deep experience with mechanical design, aerostructures, propulsion systems, thermal management, and rapid prototyping through production.
- Experience leading high-performing teams in early-stage, fast-paced environments.
- Strong command of CAD, FEA/CFD analysis, GD&T, DFM/DFA, and structural and environmental testing.
- Experience fielding hardware in harsh real-world operating conditions.
- Ability to work on-site in Sausalito.
Nice to have
- Experience in drones, aerospace, robotics, aviation, or complex electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with FAA certification, airworthiness, safety, or defense requirements.
