Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Reading (London), United Kingdom; hybrid with one dedicated remote day per week

hirify.global Space develops ultra-low-Earth-orbit satellites operating at approximately 200 km to advance global connectivity and insight.

What you will do

• Design satellite mechanical systems and components, including primary structures, thermal-control hardware, secondary structures, mechanisms, pipe routing, electromechanics, and MGSE.
• Create 3D CAD models, fully dimensioned manufacturing drawings, interface control documents, assembly configurations, and PLM data using GD&T.
• Take hardware from concept through qualification and on-orbit operation, leading design reviews and planning verification tests.
• Optimise designs for manufacturability, cost, mass, and reliability while working with manufacturers and suppliers.
• Support prototype builds, assembly, integration, environmental testing, troubleshooting, and design iteration.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, systems, and thermal engineers to integrate mechanical components into the satellite platform.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in satellite mechanical design for aerospace applications such as satellites, payloads, or launch vehicles.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Practical GD&T experience and the ability to produce manufacturing-ready drawings.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, structural mechanics, FEA, and thermal management.
• Experience designing, building, and testing hardware, including troubleshooting and iterative improvement.
