TL;DR
Compiler Engineer (Swift): Advancing Windows support for Swift and building compiler, toolchain, and cross-platform interoperability features for Swift-based browsers and applications with an accent on compiler performance, operating-system support, and open-source development. Focus on optimizing memory allocation and build pipelines, maintaining Windows and Android toolchains across x86_64 and ARM64, and improving Swift interoperability with C/C++ and Java/Kotlin.

Location: Remote in the United States or Canada; optional office work in Williamsburg, New York. Requires at least 4+ hours of overlap with team members in the Eastern Time Zone.

Annual base salary: $295,000–$350,000 USD, plus equity and comprehensive benefits.

hirify.global builds Arc and Dia, Swift/Chromium web browsers for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android, with contributions to the Swift and LLVM open-source communities.

What you will do

  • Improve compiler performance through memory-allocation work, PGO/LTO/BOLT optimization, hot-function optimization, and build-time improvements.
  • Expand Windows and Android support, including CI testing, debugging, profiling, and x86_64, ARM64, and emerging architecture support.
  • Build and maintain custom toolchains for macOS and Windows, integrating with Xcode and VSCode and supporting cross-compilation.
  • Improve Swift interoperability with C, C++, and Java/Kotlin for cross-platform application development.
  • Drive compiler and toolchain projects from conception through production and upstream work to LLVM, Swift, and related projects.
  • Collaborate with Apple, open-source communities, and other Swift users while mentoring engineers and participating in technical discussions and interviews.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with language compilers and complex codebases such as LLVM.
  • Ideally, experience with Swift and/or C++.
  • Understanding of build systems and tooling, with a focus on maintainable, debuggable, and user-friendly configurations.
  • Pragmatic problem-solving skills and comfort working on ambiguous technical problems in a startup environment.
  • Familiarity with Windows, macOS, Android, or iOS is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work from the United States or Canada and maintain at least 4+ hours of Eastern Time Zone overlap.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Swift compiler internals, Windows toolchains, Swift bindings, or Swift developer tooling.
  • Experience contributing to LLVM, Swift, or related open-source projects.
