TL;DR
Principal Engineer (Manufacturing) - Mechanical (Aerospace): Developing and supporting manufacturing, integration, testing, and maintenance of carrier or hypersonic vehicle structures and mechanical systems with an accent on aerospace production documentation, tooling, and shop-floor support. Focus on leading manufacturing engineers, creating detailed work instructions, integrating complex aerospace systems, and solving producibility, testing, cost, and schedule challenges.

Location: On-site in Mojave, California, United States. Travel is estimated at less than 5% as needed.

Base salary: $161,000–$223,400 per year.

What you will do

  • Lead a team of 5–10 manufacturing engineers across multiple aerospace programs and assign scope based on program needs and team capabilities.
  • Create and manage detailed work instructions, production documentation, drawings, work orders, and tooling instructions for mechanical systems and structures.
  • Support manufacturing, integration, testing, shop setup, layout improvements, and real-time troubleshooting on the shop floor.
  • Act as a manufacturing engineering liaison for technicians and explain mechanical manufacturing processes and aerospace standards.
  • Evaluate technical data, support purchasing activities, and verify engineering requirements, fabrication time, producibility, cost, and schedule.
  • Support hypersonic vehicle integrated testing, test plan development, mechanical and systems design, and cross-disciplinary aerospace integration.

Requirements

  • 20–25 years of experience plus a B.S. degree in engineering or a related field, or 25+ years of relevant engineering experience; equivalent subject-matter expertise may be considered.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering, systems, experimental aircraft, and/or launch vehicle integration.
  • Experience with aerospace production drawings, work orders, PDM systems, engineering control, and revision-controlled release processes.
  • Experience integrating aircraft or launch-vehicle payload mechanical and control systems, including hands-on aircraft electrical systems and payload installation.
  • Experience creating detailed shop work instructions, mechanical manufacturing builds, testing, and design for manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD, lab equipment, aerospace hardware, technical facilitation, and working across multiple fast-paced programs.

Nice to have

  • Security clearance.
  • Siemens Capital/Mentor Graphics, NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks experience.
  • LabVIEW and configuration management systems such as Jira.
