Staff Engineer, Controls and Software

What you will do

• Develop machine and operational concepts, equipment interfaces, software requirements, and robust control system architectures.
• Design, modify, and approve electrical schematics and cable designs for industrial and test equipment according to NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A standards.
• Write, debug, document, and maintain PLC structured-text code for subsystems and third-party equipment.
• Integrate equipment with plant-wide SCADA and develop HMI screens that provide clear operational and troubleshooting feedback.
• Implement control-reliable safety systems and optimize automated operations for cycle time, availability, and yield.
• Lead control-system development with external software contractors, including requirements, priorities, testing, and implementation plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, software engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of controls engineering experience with complex mechanical or large-scale industrial equipment, including design, construction, operation, and commissioning.
• Hands-on experience with industrial control panels, 480VAC power systems, industrial fieldbuses, and industrial control components.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages, structured text, TwinCAT, TwinSAFE, HMI systems, and Inductive Automation Ignition.
• Familiarity with GitHub, CI/CD release management, and Python.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and work around industrial hazards, including high voltage, high current, pressure systems, strong magnets, and cryogenics; occasional nights, weekends, on-call work, or travel may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience with semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing.
• Experience designing enclosures compliant with NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A.
• Experience developing and tuning control loops.
