Control Systems Software Engineer (Beckhoff PLC)

What you will do

• Develop, program, and commission real-time automation architectures and machine protection systems around Beckhoff PLCs.
• Design, build, and support CI/CD pipelines for Control System software.
• Elicit and manage technical requirements with engineers and scientists.
• Collaborate on and improve Control System architecture and technology choices.
• Define and document functional specifications, test plans, and acceptance criteria.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT or a related engineering field.
• 3+ years of hands-on industry experience in software development, backend programming, or control-system programming.
• Extensive experience with an object-oriented programming language such as C++, Python, Java, C#, Kotlin, or Rust.
• Understanding of CI/CD, Git, automated testing, and established software development practices.
• Fluent English required; German proficiency is welcome.
• Flexibility, adaptability, and a hands-on approach.

Nice to have

• Experience with Beckhoff PLCs and TwinCAT, including structured text, ladder logic, or function blocks.
• Experience developing with EPICS or distributed systems.
• Experience with scientific facilities such as laser laboratories or accelerators.
• Understanding of real-time control concepts and industrial interfaces including EtherCAT, Modbus-TCP, and serial protocols.
