Director of Data (Fintech)

Location: Must be based in Toronto or open to relocating and working five days per week in the Toronto office.

Salary: C$150K–C$200K plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and own the analytics layer and long-term architecture of hirify.global’s data platform.
• Develop scalable data models, transformation layers, pipelines, and analytical workflows.
• Define canonical company metrics and establish standards for data quality, monitoring, documentation, and governance.
• Build dashboards and analytical frameworks for leadership to evaluate lending, product, finance, and operational performance.
• Analyze loan portfolio performance, borrower behavior, underwriting outcomes, and operational workflows.
• Partner with credit, finance, product, engineering, growth, and operations teams to translate business questions into analytical solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
• 6–10 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or advanced analytics.
• Deep SQL expertise and experience with large operational datasets, data warehouses, and analytical data models.
• Strong experience building data pipelines and transformation workflows, with proficiency in Python for data processing and analysis.
• Experience translating business problems into analytical solutions and operating independently in a startup environment.
• Must be based in Toronto or willing to work five days per week from the Toronto office.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, lending, financial services, or international education.
• Experience analyzing loan or credit datasets.
• Experience with GraphQL systems, API-driven data pipelines, Metabase, or other BI tools.
• Experience building a data platform from scratch at a startup.
• Experience mentoring analysts or helping build a data function.
