Staff Software Engineer (Data Engineering)

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada. Candidates near the Chicago, Fort Worth, Burnaby, or Mississauga headquarters may work in a hybrid arrangement. The role is open to applicants legally entitled to work in the country where the position is located.

Salary: CAD 126,092–151,560 per year

What you will do

• Define the technical vision, architecture, and technology standards for the enterprise data platform.
• Design and scale resilient ETL/ELT pipelines using dbt, Python, SQL, Apache Airflow, AWS, Kafka, and Snowflake.
• Architect data models, Snowflake semantic views, governed semantic layers, and data consumption capabilities for Power BI, Tableau, and Looker.
• Drive CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, SLOs, alerting, and platform reliability practices.
• Establish data quality, governance, lineage, and trustworthiness standards, resolving complex end-to-end data issues.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, collaborate with technical and business stakeholders, and contribute to hiring and organizational strategy.

Requirements

• 10+ years of data engineering or software engineering experience, including 3+ years at a senior or staff level.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Expertise in Python, SQL, cloud data warehouses, Snowflake, dbt, data modeling, and production-scale data platforms.
• Experience with Apache Airflow, Kafka, Snowpipe, AWS services including S3, MWAA, and Glue, Terraform, and CI/CD tools.
• Experience with Datadog or comparable observability platforms, data governance and cataloging tools, data quality frameworks, and secrets management.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, lead architecture reviews, and collaborate in a hybrid environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java or Scala.
• Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, Looker/LookML, Horizon Catalog, Select Star, or HashiCorp Vault.
• Experience leading technical RFCs and architecture decision records.
