Manager of Data Engineering (Fintech)

Location: Toronto, Canada; in-person attendance required 5 days per week

Base pay: CAD 200,000–235,000 per year, plus bonus opportunities, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of 10 data engineers in Toronto.
• Balance people management with hands-on technical leadership, including code and architecture reviews.
• Define roadmaps and execution plans for core data engineering initiatives.
• Build platforms using semantic models, metadata, and developer tooling to make data discoverable and reusable by people and AI.
• Partner with Data Science, Machine Learning, Product Management, and Business Operations to deliver reliable data products.
• Develop scalable data pipelines and foundational datasets supporting product expansion and business operations.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager and 5+ years of prior software or data engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and Apache Spark.
• Familiarity with AWS and data technologies such as Databricks, Delta Lake, Flink, or Pinot/Druid.
• Experience building and maintaining reliable, large-scale data pipelines and foundational datasets.
• Ability to clarify ambiguous requirements, plan projects, and guide engineering execution independently.
• Ability to work in the Toronto office 5 days per week.
