Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Composites (Aerospace): Developing and improving composite manufacturing technologies and processes for the Neutron launch vehicle structure with an accent on tooling, production equipment, automation, and process documentation. Focus on resolving manufacturing non-conformances, leading root-cause investigations, supporting facility construction, and implementing scalable production systems.

Location: Onsite at the Space Structures Complex production facility in Middle River, Maryland, United States

Base pay range: $115,000–$144,000 USD per year

What you will do

  • Develop, implement, document, and continuously improve composite manufacturing processes for the Neutron launch vehicle structure.
  • Plan capital equipment, machinery, production layouts, tooling, and manufacturing equipment to meet volume, safety, quality, delivery, and cost requirements.
  • Support facility construction projects through requirements generation, design reviews, and implementation.
  • Contribute manufacturing expertise to design reviews, including design for manufacture, design for test, productivity, supplier capability, and quality control.
  • Lead new product and product revision introductions, problem containment, root-cause investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Introduce automation, connect equipment data with MRP and quality systems, and mentor engineers and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing engineering, or another technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of composite manufacturing experience.
  • For work in the United States, eligibility under U.S. Government ITAR export regulations is required, or the ability to obtain the necessary authorizations.
  • Ability to work in a production environment involving prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and computer work, with occasional moderate noise, dust, and fumes.

Nice to have

  • Experience with capacity modeling, process mapping, Lean/Six Sigma, and value stream mapping.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software and tooling design.
  • Experience with Automated Fiber Placement, autoclave, and out-of-autoclave composite manufacturing.
  • Experience with non-destructive testing and inspection of composite components.
  • Experience with qualification and acceptance testing of composite structural components.
