TL;DR
Senior CAD Designer (Aerospace) (SolidWorks/CAD): Creating detailed 2D manufacturing and certification drawings for complex motion-control components and assemblies with an accent on CAD architecture, configuration management, tolerancing, and fabrication-ready design. Focus on performing tolerance stack-up analysis, applying ASME Y14 and GD&T standards, and designing drawings for precision gears, bearings, lead screws, braking systems, encoders, and avionics boxes.

Location: Torrance, California; planned move to Hawthorne, California. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents (Green Card holders).

Salary: $150,000–$170,000 base salary plus equity

What you will do

  • Maintain clean CAD architectures with logical assemblies and configurations for part variations.
  • Create detailed 2D manufacturing and certification drawings for complex mechanisms and assemblies.
  • Design drawings for precision gears, bearings, lead screws, braking systems, encoders, and avionics boxes.
  • Define part tolerances, perform tolerance stack-up analyses, and use fit classes to establish alignment.
  • Read manufacturer datasheets to size appropriate housings.
  • Apply fabrication knowledge to reduce vendor lead time and manufacturing cost.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of drafting experience in aerospace or automotive fields.
  • Advanced SolidWorks experience with complex assemblies and configuration management on a PDM system.
  • Expert knowledge of ASME Y14 and GD&T standards.
  • Ownership of the drawing process and a collaborative approach to resolving roadblocks.
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience creating drawings used in FAA or MIL flight certification programs.
  • Detailed knowledge of drawings for gears, screws, and other precision parts.
