Process Engineer - Pilot Ops (Rare-Earth Magnets): Operating and scaling a rare-earth permanent magnet pilot plant with an accent on MES/ERP integration, production recipes, process control, and technology transfer. Focus on building audit-ready production data systems, troubleshooting powder handling and sintering processes, and preparing validated procedures and equipment requirements for commercial production at Benson.

Location: Research Triangle Park, NC; regular onsite presence on the production floor is required. Candidates must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

What you will do

  • Lead MES implementation, including recipe management, electronic batch records, equipment integration, data historian connectivity, and ERP production workflows.
  • Build process data pipelines and operator dashboards while maintaining scalable data architecture for the Benson commercial facility.
  • Support floor-level magnet production involving powder handling, pressing, sintering, and post-process finishing.
  • Manage production scheduling, daily reporting, deviation troubleshooting, root cause analysis, maintenance coordination, and material readiness.
  • Own process recipes, execute improvement trials, and apply SPC and trend analysis to critical process parameters.
  • Build the technology transfer package and contribute to Benson equipment specifications, capacity planning, and production readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of process or manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment, preferably in chemicals, advanced materials, metals, or a similar process-intensive industry.
  • Hands-on MES experience with recipe management, electronic batch records, and equipment integration, plus familiarity with ERP production and inventory workflows.
  • Experience owning live production processes, including scheduling, deviation management, SPC, and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to use Python, SQL, or similar tools to build process data pipelines and operator dashboards.
  • Experience authoring SOPs, batch records, and process documentation in a regulated or audit-ready environment; U.S. Person status is required.
