Head of Mechanical Design (Optical Packaging)

What you will do

• Lead mechanical and packaging design for next-generation 1.6T optical modules.
• Optimize module housings, PCB integration, thermal dissipation, and compliance with MSA, IEEE, Telcordia, and customer requirements.
• Develop die bonding, wire bonding, optical coupling, fiber, lens, mirror integration, and precision alignment techniques.
• Design thermal solutions using heat sinks, vapor chambers, TIMs, and metal housings; conduct simulations with ANSYS, FloTHERM, and Icepak.
• Improve DFM/DFA, packaging and assembly processes, SOPs, production yield, cost efficiency, and module reliability.
• Coordinate with optical, electrical, process, test, manufacturing, supplier, and contract manufacturing teams; mentor junior engineers and support design reviews and failure analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of mechanical design and packaging experience for optical transceivers or semiconductor components.
• Experience with mechanical CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD and thermal simulation tools such as ANSYS, FloTHERM, or Icepak.
• Strong knowledge of die bonding, wire bonding, optical coupling, active and passive alignment, lens design, and fiber attachment.
• Experience with precision machining, CNC, die-casting, and injection molding for high-speed modules.
• Fluent English required; Mandarin is a plus. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills are expected.

Nice to have

• Experience with 800G or 400G client-side optical modules or similar high-speed optical interconnects.
• Experience with MSA compliance for optical transceivers.
• Mandarin proficiency for collaboration with suppliers, depending on location and supplier requirements.
