Scientist / Senior Scientist, Process Sciences and Innovation (mRNA/LNP)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $120,000–$142,000 annually, plus bonus and equity incentives.

What you will do

• Lead technology scouting for process development across mRNA and lipid nanoparticle platforms.
• Design and execute studies for mRNA synthesis, purification, and LNP formulation.
• Partner with Analytical Development and Research on advanced characterization, process analytical technologies, in-line monitoring, and real-time process understanding.
• Evaluate instrumentation, automation, digital technologies, and data science approaches that improve process development and manufacturing robustness.
• Develop strategies to improve process performance, scalability, reproducibility, and product quality.
• Lead investigations into complex process and product challenges, mentor junior scientists, and provide technical leadership across development and manufacturing.

Requirements

• B.S. or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
• Significant industry experience developing mRNA, LNP, or related nucleic acid therapeutic products, with demonstrated technical leadership and innovation.
• Deep understanding of DNA/mRNA synthesis, purification, and characterization.
• Experience designing experimental studies and applying Design of Experiments, multivariate analysis, mechanistic process understanding, and data-driven optimization.
• Strong understanding of process development principles and the relationship between process parameters, material attributes, and product quality.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives independently, collaborate across scientific disciplines, and communicate complex concepts clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with LNP development.
• Familiarity with advanced analytical technologies, process analytical technologies, in-line monitoring, automation, digital process development, and advanced data analysis.
• Experience working with technology vendors, equipment manufacturers, CROs, academic groups, and industry collaborators.
