Salary: Senior Scientist: $172,400–$221,000 per year. The posting also lists Scientist II compensation of $156,800–$201,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead metabolomics and lipidomics projects from experimental design through sample preparation, measurement, data processing, and delivery.
• Define project objectives, feasibility, deliverables, timelines, risks, and status with cross-functional scientific and bioinformatics partners.
• Execute and supervise sample preparation for steady-state metabolomics and lipidomics across cells, tissues, and biofluids.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize LC-MS platforms, including Thermo Exploris 240, SCIEX 7500, and Vanquish HPLC systems.
• Develop and adapt extraction protocols, process raw datasets using Skyline and Compound Discoverer, and coordinate quality control and data processing.
• Maintain project documentation in Benchling and project management systems, mentor colleagues, and communicate progress to stakeholders and leadership.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent experience in metabolomics, lipidomics, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline.
• More than 6 years of hands-on experience with both HRAM and LRMS, preferably using Orbitrap Exploris and SCIEX triple quadrupole platforms.
• Strong experimental design and problem-solving skills, including sample preparation for cells, tissues, and biofluids.
• Demonstrated mentoring and project management experience, including collaboration with scientists from diverse training backgrounds.
• Ability to work on-site in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.

Nice to have

• Experience developing methods for metabolites or lipids and performing metabolite identification and trapping in drug metabolism.
• Experience with discovery studies involving more than 1,000 samples.
• Experience designing and interpreting isotope tracing experiments, including metabolic flux analysis.
• Experience integrating metabolomics or lipidomics with proteomics and transcriptomics.
