TL;DR
Embedded Engineer - Motor Control Firmware (Robotics): Building bare-metal real-time firmware for STM32-class motor controller PCBs in a humanoid robot, with an accent on motor-control loops, calibration, fault handling, and joint-level communication. Focus on guaranteeing deterministic timing, integrating EtherCAT/CAN protocols, bringing up new boards, and deploying firmware across the walking robot.

Location: Shanghai, China; on-site

Company

Developing AI-first humanoid robotics systems that combine perception, reasoning, and dexterous manipulation into autonomous, continuously learning platforms.

What you will do

  • Design and develop bare-metal real-time firmware in C for STM32-class MCUs on motor controller PCBs.
  • Implement and optimize FOC commutation and current, velocity, and position control loops with guaranteed timing.
  • Own encoder and current-sensing calibration, protection mechanisms, and fault handling for over-current, over-temperature, and encoder-loss conditions.
  • Implement EtherCAT/CAN slave stacks and joint-level communication APIs for the robot compute platform.
  • Own bootloader, flashing, and fleet firmware-update flows across all robot joints.
  • Bring up board revisions and debug firmware and hardware using ADCs, DMA, timers/PWM, interrupts, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and HIL setups.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of embedded firmware development in bare-metal, hard real-time systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C and STM32 or equivalent ARM Cortex-M programming.
  • Hands-on experience with motor-control firmware, including FOC, current/velocity/position loops, and encoder interfaces, and/or industrial protocols such as EtherCAT and CAN.
  • Excellent debugging skills in both code and hardware environments.
  • Comfort with schematics, datasheets, and bench instrumentation.

Nice to have

  • Deep EtherCAT knowledge, including slave-stack integration and real-time tuning.
  • Experience with servo drives, drone ESCs, or robot joint controllers.
  • Python experience for test automation.
  • Familiarity with MISRA C or structured safety-oriented coding practices.
  • Comfort communicating technical topics in English with international teams.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in a small, senior, hands-on robotics engineering team.
  • Collaborate with headquarters engineering teams and motion-control and electrical engineers.
  • Take ownership of firmware from board bring-up through deployment on a walking humanoid robot.
  • Contribute to a new China-based robotics Engineering Center developing a full-size humanoid platform.
