Mechanical Design Engineer (Electric Aviation)

Location: South Burlington, Vermont, United States; onsite manufacturing environment.

Salary: $80,000–$110,000 USD per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design tools, jigs, fixtures, machines, and other equipment for aircraft manufacturing.
• Develop improvements for manufacturing efficiency, production rate, quality, ergonomics, and safety.
• Evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes and collaborate with product design on manufacturability.
• Lead tooling and process ideation, development, prototyping, and testing.
• Support tooling and equipment commissioning and validation.
• Fabricate and modify parts, including machining and welding, and create maintenance, troubleshooting, qualification, and calibration documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline with a strong mechanical design focus.
• At least 3 years of mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks or CATIA preferred.
• Experience with structural FEA and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing; ASME Y14.5 experience preferred.
• Strong organization, discipline, communication, self-direction, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to stand and remain active for an 8-hour shift, lift 25 pounds, and work at a computer for several hours.

Nice to have

• Experience designing manufacturing tooling and implementing industrial automation solutions.
• Understanding of material properties and their applications.
• Experience with composites, thermal design, structural analysis, shock, and vibration testing.
