TL;DR
Mechanical Design Engineer, Flight Mechanisms (Aerospace): Designing, fabricating, testing, and certifying flight control actuators, propulsion and landing gear components, and environmental control components for the ES-30 hybrid-electric aircraft with an accent on gears, bearings, seals, and electromechanical systems. Focus on validating complex flight components against DO-160G, MIL-STD-810, or similar standards and collaborating across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Base pay range: $124,000–$176,000 USD per year

Company

hirify.global develops the ES-30, a 30-passenger regional hybrid-electric airplane with a 200 km electric zero-emission range and a 400 km extended hybrid range.

What you will do

  • Own the design, fabrication, testing, and eventual certification of novel flight components.
  • Design and develop primary and secondary flight control actuators, propulsion and landing gear components, and environmental control system components.
  • Lead the design of mechanism subcomponents such as gears, bearings, and seals.
  • Design, build, and test components to environmental qualification standards including DO-160G and MIL-STD-810.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to develop and fly complex aircraft systems.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional CAD experience for the Mechanical Design Engineer level, or 5+ years for the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer level.
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals covering CAD design, FEA or hand calculations, and machine-shop fabrication.
  • Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or electromechanical motorized systems.
  • Passion for aircraft and the electrification of aviation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with aerospace design and regulatory standards such as FAA, EASA, DO-160G, and MIL-STD-810.
  • Experience with hand-calculation methods for preliminary and verification analysis of complex mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical manufacturing fundamentals, including advanced GD&T for mechanisms.
  • Experience taking designs from concept through analysis and production independently and with cross-functional teams.
