Field Mechanical Engineer - Assembly

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States. On-site five days per week during assembly operations, with possible first- or second-shift assignments.

What you will do

• Co-own the assembly sequence for a workstation, initially focused on Toroidal Field Coil semicircle sub-assemblies.
• Define first-encounter work scopes, including manifold and magnet sub-assembly installations.
• Resolve fit, method, component-handling, and non-conformance issues while coordinating with Tokamak System design teams.
• Procure or design tools, fixtures, and manipulation equipment required for assembly operations.
• Test, implement, and hand off processes and tools to production technicians.
• Provide manufacturing and assembly feedback during SPARC subsystem design reviews and support hands-on tokamak assembly operations.

Requirements

• Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience.
• At least 3 years of mechanical engineering experience demonstrating project ownership.
• At least 2 years overseeing an active construction, manufacturing, assembly, or integration process.
• At least 2 years of experience with CAD software.
• Ability to work on-site five days per week during relevant assembly operations.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and work around industrial hazards, including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Six or more years of mechanical engineering experience with project ownership.
• Siemens NX experience, lifting operations experience, and welding knowledge.
• Knowledge of piping and tubing construction and joining.
• Experience with complex, delicate, tightly packaged, or fast-paced assemblies and integrations.
• Experience with composite preparation, cable and tubing alignment, fiber inspection and splicing, or heavy-component manipulation.
