What you will do

• Design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies for HDD products, including head stack assemblies, actuators, voice coil motors, base castings, top covers, spindle motor mounts, filters, and vibration-isolation structures.
• Create tight-tolerance parts and drawings using SolidWorks or NX, applying GD&T for functional requirements.
• Design for ultra-clean Class 10/100 environments and use 3D printing and rapid prototyping for design validation.
• Perform FEA, modal analysis, shock and vibration simulation, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Design test fixtures, develop validation protocols, and conduct shock, vibration, and thermal-cycling tests.
• Collaborate with recording heads, media, firmware, servo, and supplier teams on system integration, specifications, quality, and corrective actions.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of actual professional work experience in mechanical engineering; school projects alone are not sufficient.
• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience in precision mechanical design, preferably for HDDs, or in high-volume consumer electronics or medical devices.
• Experience with head-disk interfaces, aerodynamics, actuator dynamics, servo positioning, contamination control, and magnetic recording fundamentals.
• Knowledge of die casting, precision machining, MIM, stamping, CMM programming, optical measurement, surface profilometry, and materials including aluminum alloys, stainless steel, and engineering polymers.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, GD&T, FEA, modal analysis, and shock/vibration simulation, along with strong analytical and communication skills.
