TL;DR
Spacecraft Design Engineer (Aerospace): Defining satellite platform architectures and system requirements for mass-manufactured spacecraft buses with an accent on performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost. Focus on performing system-level trade studies, managing subsystem interfaces, maintaining requirements traceability, and translating mission needs into executable designs.

Location: Los Angeles, with in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office

Salary: $165,000–$200,000 annual base salary, excluding additional benefits.

hirify.global is a fast-growing aerospace startup that manufactures satellite buses at scale through software, vertical integration, and manufacturing-oriented hardware.

What you will do

  • Define and evolve end-to-end satellite system architectures across multiple mission profiles.
  • Perform system-level trade studies optimizing performance, reliability, cost, mass, and schedule.
  • Analyze and allocate system requirements to spacecraft subsystems and maintain interface control documents.
  • Manage platform-level requirements and traceability between customer needs and subsystem designs.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies using margins, sensitivities, and FMEA.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, avionics, power, structures, thermal, software, and manufacturing teams through design reviews and qualification.

Requirements

  • U.S. Person status required to access export-controlled data.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience working on complex hardware systems, preferably spacecraft.
  • Strong understanding of satellite subsystems and their interactions.
  • Experience with system-level trade studies, requirements definition, and interface management.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing satellite platforms or spacecraft buses.
  • Familiarity with requirements management or modeling tools such as SysML, Jira, and Excel.
  • Experience supporting early validation or risk-reduction testing.
  • Familiarity with aerospace systems engineering best practices.
