TL;DR
Operations Engineer (Aerospace): Planning and executing ground and flight tests for reusable high-speed Talon test vehicles with an accent on vehicle readiness, configuration control, safety, and mission operations. Focus on coordinating integrated vehicle testing, mitigating test hazards in real time, and developing operational procedures from initial airworthiness through recovery and return to flight readiness.

Location: Mojave, California, United States; onsite

Base salary: $101,000–$146,500 for Level II, $117,000–$153,400 for Senior Level, or $152,500–$200,000 for Staff Level, annually.

hirify.global engineers operationally realistic Mach 5+ testing using reusable, air-launched Talon test vehicles to generate flight data for hypersonic technology development and national security applications.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute ground and flight test strategies, plans, procedures, mission cards, and readiness activities.
  • Coordinate with vehicle engineering, crew chiefs, ground support, and Carrier Aircraft operations teams on configuration, maintenance, mating, and integrated testing.
  • Identify test hazards, evaluate risks, and implement real-time mitigation actions.
  • Plan and support functional testing across avionics, flight controls, recovery systems, propulsion integration, and propulsion demonstrations.
  • Gather, review, document, and control high-speed vehicle test data and results.
  • Develop concepts of operations, timelines, checklists, and emergency response procedures for launch and recovery locations.

Requirements

  • Proven technical aerospace leadership experience in a technical operations environment focused on execution readiness.
  • Experience with experimental or modified aircraft, launch vehicles, or spacecraft; technical and safety review boards; and configuration control.
  • Experience with engineering, scheduling, and test data analysis tools, plus knowledge of risk or safety management systems.
  • Ability to lead teams, prioritize tasks, make decisions, communicate requirements, and adapt to changing operational conditions.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance are required.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and travel periodically; travel is estimated at less than 20%.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a similar technical discipline.
  • Professional flight test course experience.
  • Knowledge of launch vehicle or aircraft requirements verification and requirements development.
  • Experience with launch vehicle, air-launch, high-speed flight, government flight test, ranges, or classified hardware.
  • Existing TS/SCI clearance or experience as an expeditor or production superintendent.
