Software Engineer (Scala)

Location: London, United Kingdom; flexible hybrid working with regular home working and a strong presence in the London office.

What you will do

• Build tooling that enables users to configure financial-crime detection logic more easily and effectively.
• Enhance the platform so existing scores can be applied across a wider range of scenarios.
• Improve system performance so large datasets can be analysed efficiently.
• Design, implement, test, and deploy well-engineered software solutions across the full engineering lifecycle.
• Take features from concept to release while collaborating with product teams and delivery experts.
• Use modern agentic AI tooling in software development.

Requirements

• Commercial experience with Scala or functional programming experience using languages such as Java.
• Experience across the full engineering lifecycle, from design and implementation through testing and deployment.
• Ability to design high-quality solutions to complex problems with a broad view of the wider system.
• Strong ownership, problem-solving skills, and motivation to grow within a fast-growing UK scale-up.

Nice to have

• Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, or Elasticsearch.
• Experience with DevOps tooling, automation, and engineering approaches.
• Experience building production batch data-processing, ETL, or analytics pipelines.
• Experience cleansing, parsing, standardising, and improving data quality and integrity.
