Category Manager, Mechanical (Aerospace)

Location: Torrance, California, with a planned move to a new facility in Hawthorne, California. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents and qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR.

Salary: $160,000–$175,000 per year

What you will do

• Own commodity strategy and supplier selection for gears, housings, bearings, shafts, machined parts, formed parts, and related raw materials.
• Lead sourcing for new programs from RFQ through award, including negotiations covering cost, lead time, and capacity.
• Manage procurement for NPI, from early supplier involvement and selection through initial production handover.
• Qualify and develop machining, forging, and casting suppliers through audits and capability assessments.
• Partner with design and manufacturing engineering on material selection, make-or-buy decisions, and capacity planning.
• Develop should-cost models, manage cost-out commitments, supplier corrective actions, long-term agreements, and purchase orders.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, category management, or supply chain for precision mechanical components.
• Experience sourcing machined, forged, or cast metal components and aluminum, titanium, steel, or specialty alloys.
• Knowledge of GD&T, material certifications, heat treatment, plating, NDT, and special process requirements.
• Experience negotiating with machine shops, forge and casting houses, and material distributors.
• Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and supplier qualification or audit processes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR.

Nice to have

• Experience sourcing actuation systems, flight controls, or other high-precision mechanical assemblies.
• Familiarity with internal CNC machine shop operations and make-or-buy capacity planning.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, or Epicor.
