TL;DR
Thermal Engineer (Functional Testing) (Automotive): Validating and verifying total-vehicle thermal management systems for passenger, powertrain, power electronics, and energy storage systems with an accent on component, system, and vehicle-level testing. Focus on building in-house DAQ and climatic test capabilities, leading wind-tunnel and field testing, analyzing thermal data, and resolving issues while meeting vehicle development milestones.

What you will do

  • Lead validation and verification of automotive thermal management components and systems at component, system, and vehicle levels.
  • Build in-house validation capabilities, including DAQ strategies, airflow test stands, calorimeter chambers, and climatic wind-tunnel facilities.
  • Develop DVP&R plans and lead vehicle climatic wind-tunnel and field testing.
  • Benchmark competing thermal components and define functional targets and engineering specifications.
  • Instrument, collect, analyze, and manage test data; prepare reports and present results to cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
  • Support component specifications, DFMEA, test procedures, environmental fixtures, and data-acquisition systems while resolving issues and meeting vehicle development milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Advanced knowledge or degree specialization in refrigerant cycles, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • 5–10 years of experience with thermal management systems for HEV, PHEV, and EV platforms.
  • Mandatory experience testing thermal system components and vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of refrigerants, coolants, airflow, injection-molded parts, brazed components, and high-voltage components.
  • Experience with automotive systems design, packaging, and assembly requirements.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience designing refrigerant components, sensors, valves, and fluid-transport components.
  • Supervisory experience.
